The skyscraper, also known as the super high-rise building, is a very high multi-story building. The skyscrapers are generally 10 or 20 floors at the beginning, but now they usually refer to the 40 or 50 floors.
With the different development of high-rise buildings in various places, the definition height of the skyscrapers that people recognize is slightly different. In China, the height of more than 100 meters belongs to ultra-high-rise buildings. Japan and France stipulate that more than 60 meters belong to super high-rise buildings. In the United States, buildings of more than 500 feet are skyscrapers.
Due to the continuous development of cities in recent years, there is a higher demand for urban land use. Therefore, building more usable floor space per unit area becomes a new means.
And technical means have become more mature, especially the use of steel structures, which improves the load-bearing capacity of skyscrapers. Coupled with the invention of the elevator, the final obstacle was removed for the skyscraper.
As the New York World Trade Center Building was destroyed in 2001, people could not help but doubt the danger of the skyscraper. Indeed, for those who live or work in the skyscraper, it is difficult for them to escape regardless of the earthquake or fire.
Environmental protection organizations also proposed that skyscrapers can lead to a series of environmental problems.
1. High economic risk
The skyscraper itself does not bring high returns. The higher the number of floors of a skyscraper, the higher the construction cost and the longer the period required for the return on investment. Moreover, the cost of maintenance and operation in the later period of the skyscraper is large.
Building a super high-rise skyscraper for over 500 meters is about billions or even tens of billions of projects. It also shows that the cost of building a 200-meter-high building is even higher than the cost of two 100 meters high buildings.
2. Great safety hazards
The foundation of happiness is the sense of security. The biggest concern of super high-rise buildings is safety issues. For skyscrapers, whether in the face of natural disasters such as strong winds and earthquakes, or fire caused by artificial or negligence, rescue difficulty will greatly increase. Especially for super high-rise buildings above 250 meters, the building's own fire equipment means must be complete.
3. The skyscraper will cause light pollution
If you have no concept of light pollution, then imagine how long you haven't seen the starry sky. In fact, light pollution is not only destroyed the beautiful night sky, it will affect the driver's focus on driving.
Light invasion also brings a lot of trouble to people. For example, many people cannot open the windows at night, because the nearby neon lights will flash all night, which greatly affects people's sleep quality. Residents of almost all large cities live under the light of multiple reflection.
4. Affects bird migration
The light pollution of the skyscraper will mislead the migrating birds. Due to light pollution, the light at night will be strong, making birds think that it is still during the day. So they continue to fly at night, and finally exhausted, or accidentally hit the neon lights of the building and cause death.
In the United States, tens of thousands of birds die every year. Therefore, bird enthusiasts in some big cities have called for: high-rise buildings on bird migration routes need to extinguish lights at night to ensure the safe flight of birds.
