Val Venegia, tucked in northern Italy’s Dolomites, is a must-visit for families, beginners, and anyone who wants breathtaking alpine scenery without exhausting hikes.
The valley features green meadows, sparkling streams, and dramatic peaks like Cimon della Pala and Vezzana. On our first Dolomites trip, we chose an easy trail to get used to carrying baby Lara in her hiking backpack.
This walk provided a gentle introduction to the Dolomites, stunning scenery, and a relaxed pace. Lykkers, if you want Dolomites magic without tough trekking, Val Venegia is perfect!

Hiking Experience

The trail starts gently from Paneveggio Forest and gradually opens to the valley. Jagged peaks rise dramatically, creating the classic Dolomites panorama. Walking here feels calm and refreshing, with frequent spots to stop for photos or let children explore safely. The valley is quieter than popular spots like Tre Cime or Cinque Torri, making it ideal for families and beginners.
- Optional Extended Hike: The loop from Val Venegiota to Rifugio Mulaz adds 8+ km, forming a “lollipop-shaped” trail. It’s moderately challenging (4–5 hours) and provides more peaks, valleys, and streams.

Practical Tips

- Weather: Bring waterproof layers; it can change quickly.
- Footwear: Hiking shoes recommended; trail running shoes are fine for the easy path.
- Timing: Start early to enjoy quiet trails in summer.
- Photography: Streams, huts, meadows, and peaks offer excellent spots.
- Children: Stroller-friendly, but a child backpack is ideal for toddlers.
