Air fryers make it easier to prepare a satisfying chicken meal without spending too much time in the kitchen. With a little oil and a handful of seasonings, you can create juicy chicken with a lightly crisp exterior.
This recipe is useful for busy evenings, meal preparation, or a simple lunch when you want something versatile.

Air Fryer Chicken Recipe

This recipe makes four servings and uses common pantry ingredients.
Ingredients:
4 boneless, skinless chicken portions, approximately 150–180 g each
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon dried mixed herbs
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon lemon zest, optional
Fresh parsley, for serving
Lemon wedges, for serving

Preparation and Cooking Instructions

1. Remove the chicken from its packaging and pat each piece dry with kitchen paper. Check that the portions have a similar thickness. If necessary, gently flatten the thicker areas so they cook more evenly.
2. Preheat the air fryer to 190°C for approximately three minutes, following the appliance instructions.
3. In a small bowl, combine the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried herbs, salt, black pepper, and optional lemon zest. Mix until the seasoning is evenly distributed.
4. Place the chicken in a large bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Turn the pieces to coat both sides, then sprinkle over the seasoning mixture. Rub it gently across the surface so every portion is covered.
5. Arrange the chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Leave a little space between the pieces to allow hot air to circulate. Cook in batches if your basket is small.
6. Air-fry at 190°C for approximately 10 minutes. Turn the chicken over and continue cooking for another five to eight minutes, depending on its thickness and the appliance.
7. Check the thickest part with a food thermometer. Chicken should reach an internal temperature of 74°C before serving. If it has not reached this temperature, continue cooking and check again after a short interval.
8. Transfer the cooked chicken to a clean plate and let it rest for approximately five minutes. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges.

Tips for Tender Results

Avoid filling the air fryer basket too tightly. When pieces overlap, the hot air cannot circulate properly, which can lead to uneven cooking. Giving each portion enough room helps the surface cook more consistently. Cooking times can vary between appliances, so use the suggested timing as a guide rather than relying on it alone. The thickness of the chicken also affects how long it needs. A food thermometer provides a more reliable way to check that it is fully cooked.

Serving Ideas and Variations

Serve the chicken with roasted carrots, steamed broccoli, or a fresh green salad for a balanced meal. It also works well with rice, mashed potatoes, or warm flatbread. For a different flavor, replace the mixed herbs with dried oregano and add extra lemon zest. If you enjoy a little heat, include a small pinch of chili powder in the seasoning. You can also slice the cooked chicken and add it to a wrap with lettuce, cucumber, and yogurt dressing.
Air fryer chicken is a practical recipe that can fit into many everyday meals. A simple blend of herbs and spices gives it plenty of flavor, while careful cooking helps keep the inside tender. Once you are comfortable with the basic method, you can adjust the seasonings and sides to create different meals throughout the week.
